Our Story

Launched shortly before the pandemic, the BlueButterfly team quickly adapted its business to help families create beautiful and personalized virtual funeral services at a time when it wasn’t possible to gather and mourn together. Through that journey, families were able to honor their loved ones with grace, beauty and thoughtfulness.

We’ve assembled a team that brings not only technical expertise in online services but also a deep understanding of grief from personal experiences. This unique blend of skills ensures a compassionate approach in guiding families through every step of creating meaningful online memorials.

Our Goal

We create heartfelt and memorable memorial pages for loved ones that capture the personality and character unique to each individual. We tell the story of people’s lives with grace and artistry through memorials that can be cherished for generations.

Our Founder

BlueButterfly grew out of founder Donna Byrd’s experience losing four loved ones in four months. After helping with multiple funerals, she knew there had to be a way to make the funeral planning process easier, more affordable and more empathetic. Donna launched BlueButterfly with one goal in mind: To make it easy to create thoughtful, beautiful and memorable celebrations of life.
